平成１７年７月３０（土）～３１（日）に福島県会津若松市を流れる「阿賀川」において、『第５回「川に学ぶ」体験活動全国大会in会津』に出席しました。
福井から車で約５時間半。日野川流域交流会事務局の上木さんと田倉川と暮らしの会の伊藤さん・臼谷さんと同行しました。
嶺北地方には大きな河川が九頭竜川しかない（日野川も足羽川も九頭竜川水系）のに対して、道中で見た富山・新潟・福島にはいくつもの河川があり、その一つひとつの河川に様々な川相がありました。
さて、全国大会では郷土色豊かな大会で福島県の歴史や文化に大いに触れることができました。体験活動では、多くの子供たちの一緒に活動し楽しいひと時を過ごせました。特に印象的だったのが、「石の水切り」について研究発表されていた中学生の方。石が水面に着水する角度や水の形状の変化から、石の進入角度と飛距離について熱心に研究されていました。さらに川で実践となり、子供より昔取った杵柄で大人が大盛り上がりで石を投げていました。実は私もかなり熱中しました。川での活動では体験型が多く一般的のようですが、水理学・力学に主点に置いた遊びの中の研究には、感服ものでした。
夜祭では郷土料理や盆踊りと日本中の川人（かわど）と楽しいひと時を過ごしました。途中、集中豪雨並みの降雨がありましたが、参加者の方々とテントに入り肩を寄せ合いながら杯を交わせたので、恵みの雨だったのでは？と思えます。
全国の川人（かわど）の方々と様々なことを共有でき、また今後のいろんな課題に対して話ができたことはとても有意義でした。
来年の開催地はどこになるのでしょうか。
また、参加したいと思います。
